OBOT AKARA 2024: ABAMA COMMUNITY BACKS PDP AS MERCY OKURE, VICE CHAIRMAN CANDIDATE, CONSULTS


Ahead of the October local government elections, the Abama Community in Nto Edino Ward 4 has resolved to support the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming Local Government election. Mrs. Mercy Leo Okure, the PDP Vice Chairman candidate, visited the community on Monday, September 16, 2024, to officially seek the support of her husband's people and to announce her candidacy alongside Hon. Simon Dominic, popularly known as Nkuma, as his running mate.


During the meeting with the village council, which included thirteen family heads, men, women, and youths, Hon. (Obong) Leo Okure, Obot Akara LGA Secretary/Nto Edino Ward 4 Deputy Leader, expressed gratitude to the Abama people for their unwavering support for the PDP since 1999. He introduced Mrs. Okure as one of their own and urged the community to fully back her and Hon. Nkuma in the election scheduled for October 5. Emphasizing the importance of peace and unity, Hon. Okure assured the people that Mrs. Okure's role as the second-in-command in the LGA would bring the dividends of democracy to the community.



In her address, Mrs. Okure thanked the community for their support and reiterated her commitment to delivering on her promises. Drawing on her experience as a banker, she pledged to be meticulous in her role as Vice Chairman and encouraged the community to offer constructive feedback on her performance. She also expressed her deep respect and love for the people of Abama and her husband, whom she referred to affectionately as her "Odogu."



Village Head Chief Idoreyen Udoma assured Mrs. Okure and her husband of the community's unflinching support, stating that the people of Abama would ensure their votes go to the PDP. Rt. Honourable Savior Akpan also praised Mrs. Okure's qualities and urged her to support the leadership of her boss, Nkuma, to succeed in her role. Leaders from various segments, including women and youth, echoed their readiness to support Mrs. Okure and ensure a PDP victory at the polls.



Following the community consultation, Mrs. Okure also sought support from her husband's family, the Nto Apa Royal Family, who pledged to rally behind her and win over others to support the PDP. The Abama community, consisting of thirteen families, has resolved to back the PDP and its candidates in the upcoming election.
