Amidst Economic Hardship Another Boundary dispute claim life in Akwa Ibom, others missing

The people of Abama community in Obot Akara LGA, of Akwa Ibom State, following the invading of their community by their Igbo neighbors from Ariam community in Ikwano LGA of Abia State two days ago, are in dare need of Humanitarian relief and government intervention that can bring permanent settlement and lasting peace  to put to an end the age long perennial communal crises between the two neighbors. 

In a renewed attack by the Ariam people, which has claimed a life and several others missing, women and children completely displaced, economic and social life paralyzed, and reduced to a state of apprehension in Abama, the village, through the village council send out a (SOS) cry to their representatives in the federal house of Assembly, the Honourable member representing Ikot Ekpene, Esien udim/ Obot Akara federal constituency, Hon. Dr. Patrick Umoh, and of course to the Senator representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, the Senatorial district which they come under, the President of the Tenth National Assembly, HE. Senator (Dr) Godswil Obot Akpabio to please come to their rescue in providing humanitarian assistance to the several displaced people, and as well, utilised the instrument of government and dispute resolution to permanently bring to an end the age long feud that is not serving anyone any good.

The people also  called on all her leaders in the State and the federal level, they specifically called on the Special adviser to the governor of Akwa Ibom State on boundary matters, Barr. Cosmos Udoete, Hon. Jerry Otu, member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State constituency, the boundary commission, under the office of the Vice President of the Federal republic of Nigeria, HE. Sen. Kashim Shetima, and not forgetting their counterparts from Abia State, (Senator, Federal and State House Members) representing Ariam people, religious and traditional groups and their leadership, and all well-meaning individuals that have the political will and power to bring the age long communal crises between them and the people of Ariam community in Ikwano LGA of Abia State, that has claimed uncountable lives from generation to generation to an end.

Obong Okure pointed out clearly that he would not aid or support any unlawful act that might result in the killing and taking of any life,  which bring no good to anyone, both his people and the opponents. He called on his people to be law abiding, while relevant agencies and individuals are intimated for proper action and assistance.

JOB CREATION: GOV ENO LAUNCHES ARISE YOUTHS EMPLOYMENT PORTAL

In his avowed commitment to entrench sanity and ensure that qualified Akwa Ibom indigenes secure jobs in the employment market, the State Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno has launched Arise Youths Employment Portal to provide a database and a market place for job seekers and employers.

The portal will also serve as the official recruitment platform for programmes like the 60,000-youth empowerment initiative which offers N50,000 monthly stipends to 5, 000 youths across the state.

The Rumbles in PDP Wards that Might Affect Governor Umo Eno's Second Chance.

There is currently an ill-wind blowing at the respective wards of the People Democratic Party (PDP) that might affect, negatively, the chance of Governor Umo Eno, if at all the Governor is interested in a second term, and the chances of PDP as a whole come 2027 that must be nibbed at the butt, and not allowed to fester.

 According to some insiders from various wards within the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, who spoke in condition of anonymity to your IKPNews platform, the ill-wind stem from the appointments of the respective Personal Assistant to the Governor by the respective wards' leaders, who are being accused of selfishness and appointing people not on merits, people that their contribution to the party cannot be said to be impactful, people lacking in popularity, goodwill and the capacity to galvanised needed supports at their respective wards level for governor Umo Eno and the PDP, come 2027. They accused some of their wards' leaders of appointing people that don't command the respects of their people, and don't have the people's acceptability, for their selfish interest and personal aggrandisement of collecting percentage from these unpopular PAs. They argue that despite most of the wards' leaders occupying one appointment or the other at the State,  they still come to control who becomes PA and  Councilors at the ward, some either appointing their relations, or people they will be collecting percentage from their take home pay.

They even pointed out that, "some people that have been selected and their names captured among the five thousand (5,000) youths that the governor promised some stipends in the governor's empowerment programme are all people that have an understanding to remit some percentage of the empowerment to these unscrupulous elements that call themselves ward leaders", one respondent, who threatened mobilizing and voting against the PDP come 2027 if this anomaly is not addressed explained

They suggest as the way forward, that the governor should carefully direct various LG political leaders, Federal and State House Members, as well as LG chairmen to oversee and determine who become supervisors, so as to pacify and accommodates some dynamic leaders, who have contributed immensely to the party and have the capacity to mobilized support for the party, and not to keep on relying on the choices of wards leaders, whose action might jeopardized the interest of the party.. 

MILITARY STRENGTH, CRUCIAL FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH AND SOCIAL IMPROVEMENT... PROFORCE CEO

 DEFENCE:

Military development has been described as a panacea for economic growth and societal improvement of any Nation. This was revealed by the Chief Executive Officer PROFORCE  Limited, Mr. Ade Ogundeyin while delivering a lecture titled "The Role of Public and Private Sectors in the Development of a Robust  Military Industrial Base in Nigeria" to participants of the Defence Research and Development Bureau Annual Seminar and Exhibition held at Sani Abacha hall of the National Defence College, Nigeria. 

Mr Ogundeyin said the military strength of any Nation is dependent on its military technological development through collaborations with Defence Related Industries which in turn creates jobs and boosts economic growth.

He added that capacity building on the domestic scene will attract self-reliance and bridge the gap of over-dependence on foreign nations for defence equipment. " When we build capacity to manufacture our equipment and integrate other technologies, we can design solutions that will meet specific requirements of the end-user and also provide satisfactory understanding for easy maintenance and upgrade of the system", he said. 

He further stated that the Federal Government's efforts towards addressing the need for local manufacturing of defence equipment led to the establishment of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, the Defence Industrial Corporation of Nigeria and the Special Vehicle Plant among others. 

 Mr Ade Ogundeyin then called on relevant stakeholders in the business of defence to enact policies that will create a conducive environment and regulation that will guide defence production, procurement, industrial activities and collaborations with local and international partners. 

He proffered that allocation of adequate funds through the budget to the sector will enhance Research and Development aimed at improving defence infrastructure adding that Security and Intelligence support provides critical infrastructure needed to protect defence companies and its operations. 

The private sector, he said plays a complementary role in leveraging innovations, entrepreneurship and operational efficiency to accelerate the growth of Nigeria's military-industrial complex which dovetails into manufacturing and production capacity, technology advancement, skill development, capacity building, backward integration, technology transfer and local content development among others. 

The PROFORCE chief also highlighted the collaboration between public and private sectors through joint ventures, strategic alliances, joint research and development, innovation clusters and defence ecosystem.

The event witnessed the gathering of who is who in Defence manufaturing sector,  Minister of Defence and his Science, Technology  and Innovation counterpart, the Service Chiefs and Heads of Security Agencies,  captain of industries, government officials among others.
